A discount Rx
plan allowing members to save money on all types of
prescription
medications.
At the time of purchase, the member
simply presents his or her card at
a participating pharmacy to instantly
receive substantial discounts on prescription
drugs.
Any individual with limited or no
prescription drug coverage can benefit from
a prescription drug savings card. Even
people who already have other insurance
coverage may still benefit from the card, as it
can discount medications that may not be covered
by their current
health plan.
This includes Part D Medicare
recipients.
The prescription drug savings card can
be especially useful to seniors enrolled in Medicare. It has
been estimated that as many as 38% of
Medicare recipients lack prescription drug
coverage.
How It Works
Most prescription medications will fall into
one of 3 tiers: $10 tier, $20 tier, or
$40 tier.
These are NOT co-pay amounts, but are discount
categories*.
For example,
the $10 tier means that for drugs in this tier, the
member will pay an amount up to
$10.
For drugs in
the $20 tier, members will pay an amount
between $10.01 -
$20.00.
For drugs in
the $40 tier, members will pay an amount
between $20.01 - $40.00.
Prescription drugs that do not fall into one of
the three tiers will usually
be discounted at a percentage, often an average
of 15% on brand name drugs and 40%
on generic
drugs.**
